I work within the EY-Parthenon Turnaround & Restructuring Strategy team. We assist stressed and distressed businesses through Independent Business Reviews, contingency planning, options analysis and formal insolvency cases.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have thoroughly enjoyed my programme at EY. I have had opportunities to work on high-profile engagements as part of a high-performing award-winning team.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Since working at EY, I have developed a knowledge of the restructuring and insolvency market, and had opportunities to work on high-profile insolvency cases. Furthermore, my technical skills have improved through an increased use of MS Excel, as well as my soft skills through the frequent meetings with clients.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The EY Business Apprenticeship is well structured. Every apprentice is assigned both an apprenticeship coach and a counsellor. We can see our college dates with Kaplan months in advance which enables us to accurately plan leave.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Every apprentice has both an apprenticeship coach and a counsellor. Your apprenticeship coach helps us with anything to do with the apprenticeship (exams, training, peer feedback). Your counsellor is someone a few grades above (usually a manager) from your team who reviews your feedback and is there as someone to talk to with any problems.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We are provided with enough time off to revise for exams. I would like a few days more study leave ideally but I have managed to pass all exams so far with what has been given.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The ICAEW ACA qualification helps me to understand the ethical requirements of a chartered accountant, and what is expected of the profession. Technically, the qualification so far has been geared towards typical accounting and audit work, rather than insolvency and restructuring. However, understanding the basis accounting concepts has enabled me to better understand my client and the data they provide.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

At EY we are encouraged to take part in professional networking events. There are also a number of sport teams you can get involved with, as well as a big Christmas party every year!

Why?
EY is a very diverse and inclusive place to work. I have worked with fantastic clients as part of high-performing award-winning teams which is providing me with great experience for the future. EY reward hard-work through a bonus scheme and I have always felt supported at EY!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
The EY assessments can be tricky so I would suggest doing practice numerical and verbal reasoning tests before you take on the EY ones. If you are lucky enough to reach the assessment days or interview stages, the most important thing is to be yourself.
