Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Every day is different, tasks range from simple filling out of forms to calling HMRC to sitting in on client calls. No day is the same and experience varies highly depending on your team and also your sector. Often involves filling out of paperwork and other administrative tasks to begin with.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme to a high extent, it has been a great alternative to university, especially during the coronavirus pandemic. It has provided me with a great base to learn and develop from over the span of my career. It was a great decision to make especially for school leavers.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt lots of new skills in the short period I have been with the company. The higher apprenticeships provide both in office and external training so you are constantly learning about the financial world around you. Training type does also vary depending on service line and previous experience.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well structured with a variety of support including counselors, buddies, apprenticeship coaches and a peer support network that meets regularly. Like all businesses, the transfer from the real world to the virtual world has created some teething problems but these have all but been eradicated during my time here.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a great deal of support from my buddy, my counselor, my apprenticeship coach, the peer support network and the rest of my team. The small team sizes mean that every new employee feels supported and encouraged by those around them. There is always a colleague around to ask for help.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
There is lots of support from training providers, Kaplan provides teaching materials (which are currently being delivered to your home), they then have live teaching lessons, followed by revision sessions. They have online resources too including mocks papers and there is always a tutor available for you to ask questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel my training helps a great deal in my role, the training means you can quickly progress to more difficult and challenging tasks and develop quickly into a valued member of the team. Not all of your qualification will be directly relevant to your work, but you never know when you will use it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is a large professional network at EY, it comprises of different religions, races, genders, abilities and many more. There are networks for the majority of main religions, there is a womens network, a family network, many sports teams, dyslexia network, bame network, disability network to name just a few.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is great opportunity for young people who do not find themselves or do not wish to attend university. There is a wide range of opportunities within the company and allows for career progression at an early age. Overall, Ernst and Young LLP seems like a great place to do an apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
I would say that you need to express yourself, it is hard in a digital environment to truly project who you are. Make sure that you are verbal, no one likes an awkwardly quiet call, and also where possible and applicable, put on your teams camera it is so much nicer of an interaction.
