Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I provide my clients with international tax advice, including tax planning, tax compliance and tax advisory work. On a day to day basis, I can perform a variety of tasks such as calling clients, drafting emails, drafting reports, discussing technical matters, performing research and undertaking quality management procedures for my engagements.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme a lot, the scheme is very flexible and rewarding. At a young age, you are trusted to manage your own work load as well as study for the exams as part of the professional qualification. It definitely meets expectations and the company culture is open and great.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have learnt new skills as well as developed existing skills. The main skill I have developed is my communication and time management, which I had before from previous studies in college. Some new skills I have learnt over the past few years are research skills, formal communication and email writing skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very structure, I get annual reviews and know my college dates well in advance of when the exams are. The training and support is great and you feel very looked after. EY cover all of the study costs and provide extra days for study leave to make sure you have enough time to revise for your exams.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support I receive is great. You get assigned a counsellor who you can go to if you have any issues or concerns or just want a chat. There is a HR team but you rarely speak to them. Everyone has a good attitude and is helpful and wants to support you.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The tutors at the college are great and are very knowledgeable and experienced. The support is great too, we get study days off and time away from work to go to college, and it's paid. There is a dedicated exam team and apprentice team who help with guidance and any problems you may have.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification is fairly applicable on a day to day role. As I work in tax, the tax exams are useful and also the accounting exams are useful to better understand financial statements and accounting rules in practice. I feel it gives you more confidence with your job and allows you to progress.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are lots of company events, social events, classes and more. As a team, we are allocated a social budget where we can go for team events such as drinks, bowling or escape rooms. There are also wider communities and groups, there is even one that plays sports such as football.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend EY as the overall support and training is great. You learn a lot and you are paid to learn and progress, instead of going to uni and paying away for a qualification. The opportunities are great too and there is always new work to get involved in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
I would just advise to be yourself, EY is about people and if you are your true self you will get a chance to join. The application process is simple. I would have liked to been told to just be myself and not put on an act or try to force things.
