Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Using Spotfire to visualize data and provide analysis on activity and product performance.
Creating performance monitors on Spotfire
Supporting other analysts in larger projects
using Google Analytics to provide analysis on website activity

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was able to manage large data sets, get involved in large projects which were widely recognized across the company and train the new students and lead on their onboarding

More proficient in Excel
I am now able to use Spotfire, Google Analytics and Sales Force Marketing Cloud which I had no experience of before.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

The support and guidance I received during my placement was exceptional; I had the opportunity to work on my personal development and my manager really helped with this. I had regular one-ones with my manager and other checkins with the other students on my team. I felt like I could go to anyone in my team for support

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Everyone was friendly and welcoming; despite most of my placement being virtual due to COVID-19. We often had virtual social events as a team.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

The virtual nature of the placement sometimes caused challenges but for the most part I really enjoyed my placement and felt like I was able to get involved in a wide range of projects and learn a lot about the pharmaceuticals industry. I really got along with my team and enjoyed my day to day work

What advice would you give to others applying to MSD

When interviewing, really think of why you want the job. Have some examples from uni/ previous jobs to use during interviews and use the STAR (Situation Task Action Result) technique. Don't be afraid to ask lots of questions
