Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
3 days a week I work at the Dyson Campus and 2 days a week I study from Warwick University, including seminars and tutorials provided by the Dyson team. Everyday at Dyson campus is different and exciting, you are actually working with real employees, part of a team, where you are constantly learning and discovering what Engineering really is. This includes doing some practical tests, research and learning software.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
It is an extremely personal experience - with your cohort, the Dyson team as well as the Warwick lecturers. That has meant that I am comfortable asking for help and getting the experience that I wanted.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt software skills - every stream in Engineering will have some form of software in it, so learning programming languages is important. Coming with no programming background whatsoever, both Dyson and Warwick have been completely understanding and helpful, and I have gotten the hang of it despite initially being scared of it. Soft skills along with Engineering skills have also been developed with regular meetings with line managers.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
We have organised work and study days, it is always very clear what percentage of my time is going into what in my apprenticeship, we are always well prepared with any organised days/events/changes in schedules. Work rotations and university terms are always around the same time which is always very useful.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We have regular meetings with our line managers and student support advisors - this has meant that the Dyson team have created a space where we are comfortable talking to our employers. There are many mental wellbeing support sessions and advice given, it is an open space.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
There are open discussion forms and forms of contact provided by Warwick, this means that we can contact them whenever and wherever we want, and with experience, they have always had speedy, detailed and helpful responses. The lectures are well delivered and there is open time for questions throughout and after lectures.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It gives the necessary knowledge required to make assumptions and calculations in the workplace; it provides a foundation and Engineering background to work from at work. I am putting into practice what I have learnt in theory, they go hand in hand.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Covid times are different but Dyson does provide a fully accessible gym. On the other hand, they also do online fitness sessions, and the student team as well as the Dyson Institute Teams regularly have social activities prepared for us, albeit online for safety cautions.
