Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
A typical role includes aspects on research, rig-building, prototyping and presenting ideas. On a daily basis, it is normal to have ample time to independently work on an area of a project, collaborate with other engineers (sometimes across multiple teams) on the wider project and attend multiple meeting to transfer knowledge.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The degree-apprenticeship at Dyson is very rewarding. I think the best part of working for Dyson is how much Mangers and Engineers across the business support Undergraduate Engineers. This really helps you get the most out of work and assist you in your studies. Dyson is also an energetic, lively and fast-paced company so it is very difficult to find yourself becoming bored.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Skills at Dyson are developed on a regular basis no matter your level of expertise. Apart from working towards the apprenticeship certification, there are multiple internal course at Dyson which you can take at any point. Courses range from CAD training to software courses in cloud infrastructure. Also you don't need to do any courses to learn on the job, it is very normal to be expected to be thrown in at the deep end on a day-to-day basis!

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Overall, the programme is very well organised. Training and support is provided by both WMG and The Dyson Institute so you really are supported. Studying is also well structed as an extra day a week is entirely dedicated to self-study for the degree. This allows you to catch up with Uni work and feel less stressed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
At Dyson, you're never too far away from support. On a monthly basis, Undergraduate Engineers have a chat with their Student Support Adviser who are there to help you through any difficulties you may have, no matter how big or small. As well as this, there are multiple people within the workplace who can provide support such as Mentors and Line Managers
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The qualification is a large part of the course and the support WMG tutors provide really help to get the most out of the qualification. Examples of support include seminars, revision sessions, apprenticeship reviews and apprenticeship training.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Content taught by WMG has been curated to be directly applicable to the day-to-day work at Dyson. Therefore it is usually the case to be learning a certain topic in a module and then find that you need to put it into practice at work in the near future. This is great as it really helps to cement modules and allows you to see a real use behind the theory.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are countless extra-curricular activities at Dyson. Some actives are for Dyson Institute Undergraduate Engineers only, whilst others are available to the wider Dyson community. And if you find that there isn't a certain club, it is really easy to set up your own and get funding if necessary.
