Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a engineering apprentice working in rail consulting I have the opportunity to contribute to large projects such as the Transpennine Route Upgrade and other smaller projects. The workload varies as well as the different types of work, the workload and variance in work generally increases as you gain more skills and experience.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme, especially starting new and different work as well as the combination of working towards a BEng (Hons).

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Having done an different apprenticeship before starting this one I have found I have definitely developed existing skills and learnt new skills. The new skills I have learnt have been engineering specific as well as a different style that engineering works require. The skills I have developed further are the different broader skills developed from experience working.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Amey are definitely the biggest contribution to the organisation and structure of the programme and everyone works really hard to give apprentices clarity and structure.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Amey are very supportive and help you out as much as they can.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
So far, everything from the training provider has been okay.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
A degree is now essential to progress in this field and becoming more and more important. Having a degree specific to the role makes it very relevant and over time will improve performance. There are progress reviews with the training provider to make sure the degree is relevant to your work throughout so this will increase performance.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are networking events and opportunities with engineering institutions. Amey also do a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award for apprentices and graduates.
