During the work experience we learned about EY and the Business Academy, and the assurance and tax service lines were explained. The panel and buddy Q&A sessions gave us in insight to real life experiences at EY. Learning sessions presented work life skills and the case study provided the opportunity to experience a working task. The work experience, although virtual, provided a good insight into what a career with EY would be like.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?

I really enjoyed the experience although, due to having problems with MS teams, I was not able to participate as much as I would have liked. I particularly enjoyed doing the case study exercise and hearing from others who were in my position previously. All lessons delivered were interesting and beneficial to me. The presenters were so encouraging it made the whole experience a pleasure.
How well organised was your work experience?

I think it was extremely well organised. The initial day was very welcoming and set us up for the week. We knew in advance how our days would be spent and exactly what was expected of us. Each day included talks, break out sessions and interaction which made each day different and interesting.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?

The work experience has confirmed my ambition to become a Chartered Accountant. All of my questions were answered and I now have certainty about my preferred next steps. The assurance sessions were informative and exactly what I see myself doing in the future. The panel session with the current apprentices provided a realistic view of what a career with EY would be like and it sounds fantastic

Yes - I was paid for my time on the course although I would have happy have taken part without payment. A valuable experience.

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?

The primary training and skills learned from the work experience were business writing and presentation skills, how to structure emails, confidence building and resilience.
With a particular focus on assurance we learned about the initial audit planning stages, how to apply PESTLE and the things to consider when looking risk and processes to apply

Company Culture
How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?

The people we met at the academy were extremely helpful, supportive and enthusiastic about the company. They conveyed a spirit of pride in the company and inspiration to those of us at the academy. I believe EY is somewhere I would fit in and where I would be comfortable learning, growing and gaining confidence.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?

As the experience was virtual the opportunities were perhaps limited in comparison to being in an office however we did have buddy and panel sessions. Being in smaller groups it was easier to ask questions and interact. Unfortunately, due to having technical issues with MS teams, I was unable to participate as much as I would have liked

Would you recommend EY to a friend?

Why?
I would definitely recommend EY to my friends. Everyone I have met has been approachable and supportive. As a company they are keen to progress their staff and they inspire trust and confidence in others. They believe in adding extra value and delivering quality services to their clients, the kind of company I would be proud to work for.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
I would advice others that the initial application process is extensive but worth while. When I started the process I was not aware how many stages were to follow. The process was clear and support was given along the way so I would advise others to ask for help if required. Once at the Business Academy the further stages were explained clearly
