Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
4/5
On the first day we had a general introduction to EY and a competition for writing an elevator pitch. Then we had an introduction to either tax or assurance and then some mentoring, goal setting and building confidence. The next day we got a lot of information about the business apprenticeship. We also had a Q&A with members from our local offices. The last day we had a case study that we had to work on and then discuss after and various talks and information after.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
3/5
The work experience was quite enjoyable and very informative. The days were very well structured and there was always something to be doing or listening to. Since the programme was virtual and we didn't get to go to the offices I think they dealt with that well as we still got to speak with members from that specific office. Everyone was very friendly and encouraging in furthering our careers. I wish there was more opportunity to go into breakout rooms and have more focused sessions.
How well organised was your work experience?
5/5
It was very well organised. They had a set out plan for each day, which they showed us at the start of day and at the end for the next day. They had icebreakers and energisers. There was a competition that you could take part in with prizes that you had to send in. The daily tasks went too fast paced and full on so it was easy to take notes and understand what they were saying.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
4/5
The work experience did give me really good insight into a career in assurance and into life as an apprenticeship. We were able to ask questions throughout the program so I found out a lot and it answered a lot of my questions. There was a panel of apprentices so that gave insight into different employees experiences. Most of the sessions were held by different employees so that also gave insight into different experiences and career paths.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
5/5
I was paid for the experience.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
3/5
We had learning sessions, which included building confidence and resilience; business writing and presenting skills. These taught us skills that we will use in everyday life as we further in our careers. Furthermore it told specific skills that would help enhance our confidence in the work place. Also we did a case study, which simulated a real life client so we developed skills of analysis and understanding a part of what someone does in assurance.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
3/5
At the start of the work experience they gave us an introduction to EY, which told us various facts about it and what is was like to work there. There was a lot of information throughout the program about the apprenticeships so it was very clear on what it would be like as an apprentice working and studying at EY. As we couldn't go to the office it would've been nice to have pictures.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
5/5
There was a lot of opportunities for networking and meeting other employees. We were encouraged to add everyone on LinkedIn and if people didn't have LinkedIn we were encourage to get it and add everyone. If we had any further questions past the program they said they we could contact them and ask. The competition gave a prize of a conversation with a EY partner so it's clear that networking was definitely encouraged.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I think that it was a very insightful experience. Not only did I learn a lot about EY and assurance but there's the possibility of being fast tracked to the business apprenticeship. It was very informative all the way through the program. All work experience is valuable so it can tell you if you're interested in that particular industry or not. The program showed that they are very organised and they all seemed really friendly.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
The application process was long so make sure you have sectioned off enough time for it. There are quite a few steps to get into the program so don't worry if it takes a while to get a response. Practice beforehand for the numerical test if you haven't done it in a while. If you have a passion for tax or assurance then make sure that shines through your application as that is what they want to see.
