Lots of information talking to current apprentices and recruitment staff at EY. Did some case studies related to the service line we applied for and discussed our thoughts about them. Received many top tips that can be applied for all recruitment processes. Gained an insight in to the company and the culture there as well as the roles and responsibilities of an apprentice working at EY. It was very useful to gain an understanding of all parts of the apprenticeships offered by EY.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?

The programme was extremely tailored to our needs and it barely felt like work at all. Starting at around 9:45 each day and having some comfort breaks kept me engaged throughout the whole programme. If you have an interest in business, or the specific service line you apply for, then you definitely will not be bored as the entire programme is extremely informative and useful. "Energiser sessions" and the ability to participate also kept me very engaged throughout.
How well organised was your work experience?

Very well structured by the recruitment team and we were informed of the layout each day so we knew when the different sessions were. The team was on hand all day to help if there were any concerns and I did not find any issues. The sessions were very well planned and relevant to us, allowing us to settle in and eventually participate as the week progressed. There was definitely a clear and well thought out structure to each day.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?

Definitely helped me to understand all of my options better and gave me lots to think about. The benefits of the apprenticeship are shown and knowing what the job entails is really helpful in seeing if it is suitable for you. Also getting to know the people who you could be working with is definitely helpful as it can help you to see that an apprenticeship and working from an early age is a viable option.

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?

We definitely developed our business writing and presentation skills. There was a very informative session on how to write effectively in a business environment to engage readers and convey points concisely, something that you may need to use when applying for jobs. We also developed our business awareness as some current issues were discussed, such as the introduction of some taxes in the UAE. I found the building up of our own personal brand and resilience to be an interesting topic as well.
Company Culture
How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?

Learned loads about the people there, and experienced this first hand. All the speaker were really happy to answer questions and even engaged on email/Linked in. We also heard about the diversity schemes that they were running and how they help their staff with a variety of programmes. Seeing all the different social events and hearing the employees talk about these, and their day to day office life (from commuting to secondments), clearly showed how it would be like to work their.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?

There were many opportunities for this as the staff were very open to connecting on Linked in and some even gave their email addresses in case we had further questions. The other interns were also very open to networking and many setup a Linked in account after hearing about the benefits. A group was made on Linked in and people have since discussed their thoughts on different options available to people our age and future opportunities.

Would you recommend EY to a friend?

Why?
I have been on other virtual insight week programmes, and I believe the EY one was by far the best for networking and future opportunities. The people who ran the event were really nice and helped with any problems and the environment was very welcoming. At times we were working in smaller groups which definitely made it easier to talk and share ideas with our peers. I want to reiterate how welcoming all the people were as I definitely felt a part of the team from the start of the week.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Definitely try, from the start of the process you will gain experience even if you don't make it on to the course. Do your research on the company and be your self would be the 2 main tips. Also do lots of wider reading as this can be useful in conveying your passion for the industry.
