Overview of the Experience

Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
4/5
The EY business academy programme consisted of an insight into tax and assurance, sessions on building confidence, an elevator pitch competition, a case study and plenty of networking opportunities with employees and current apprentices at EY.
To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
4/5
The Business Academy internship was informative and insightful! I was able to talk to many friendly and welcoming employees at EY as well as gain a lot of industry knowledge. I would highly recommend the programme to anybody considering doing an apprenticeship after secondary school.
How well organised was your work experience?
5/5
As our event was virtual due to Covid-19, I felt that the work experience was very well put together and organised. We were provided with the exact links to all sessions on Microsoft Teams and were also provided with the schedule for each day. The student recruitment team were especially helpful with any technical difficulties we may have faced during the three days.
How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
4/5
Due to this programme, I have become more certain on my future career path and have become much clearer on all of the opportunities available to me after I leave secondary school.
Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
5/5
Yes. The hourly pay was £6.45 and the programme lasted three days (6 hours each day) which was fantastic! Due to the pandemic, of course, there were no travel costs involved.

Skills Development

What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
4/5
I was able to gain commercial awareness and develop my networking skills as well as gaining an in-depth insight into the tax service line at Ernst and Young.

Company Culture

How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
4/5
I was able to learn a lot more about EY's values and what it would be like on a day-to-day basis working there. All the employees I had spoken to had said that it was the friendly people and community at EY that stood out to them and how supportive their seniors were.
Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
4/5
Yes, we had multiple sessions where we were able to network with existing employees and apprentices who were all able to talk us through what working at EY was like.

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The business academy programme was really fun and rewarding. I would definitely recommend the programme to anybody who wants to or is still deciding between doing an apprenticeship or opting to go to university. I was able to learn a lot and meet and network with a lot of new people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
When applying to the Business Academy programme, we were required to complete a couple of numerical assessments, therefore, I would recommend looking at their website to do their practice assessments.
