Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a Global Markets apprentice the role consists of supporting our sales and trading functions in their day to day operations. E.g running reports for clients and helping to discover opportunities for business.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The program is very engaging. Due to the blend of learning I feel I have been able to develop both my understanding of financial services as well as my soft skills. The exposure to meaningful work is challenging but perfect opportunity to consolidate your learning and skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
There is always opportunity to develop new skills depending on your pathway. E.g a Level 6 qualification & CFA I. There is plenty of workshops and opportunities through your day to day role to develop soft skills ranging from excel proficiency to negotiation and communication skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The program is structured very well with multiple pathways depending on your business area and role. This means you will be able to develop the skills that are necessary for you role at a pace that is manageable but very rewarding.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support UBS has provided throughout my program has been great. Both pastorally helping me settle in to my first corporate role but also segregating 20% of my work time for study.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The training provider is really integrated into my development. They provide external workshops to develop soft skills as well as providing both the materials as well as tutor time for my CFA I qualification. Additionally they are aware of my work and help me evidence this to complete my level 6 apprenticeship.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Studying for the CFA I has vastly improved my knowledge of the industry and of products outside of my business area. This has helped me to understand how my team fits into other business areas inside the firm as well as the wider industry.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
UBS provides a platform for social activities as a cohort of apprentices through an apprentice committee consisting of apprentices from multiple cohorts. Additionally there are many social activities that go on, often sport related. There are also frequent professional networking events that are attended by senior managers. These give a great opportunity to expand your network and leverage the knowledge of some of the most senior people in the bank.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
UBS is entirely invested in my personal and professional development. The growth I have experienced so far on the apprenticeship program has been very satisfactory. The program is structured well and will set young professionals up for a successful career in financial services.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
Be yourself! The program is specifically designed to give you the product and industry knowledge required to work in financial services which you may not have already. Focus on how you have demonstrated our values and culture as this is harder to teach.
