Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
First year is full time at college learning the basics of manufacturing working towards level 3. Second year is four days on site work and one day at college finishing the qualifications. Onsite your work is split into monthly placements where you learn all aspects of your future job role while working towards your level 3 NVQ. Final year if full time at work. While on site, you work along side associates who currently do your future role. The role includes being a skilled machinest, ensuring the production line machines are operating correctly and extending to tool changes, correction moves in the software and resolving minor break downs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the apprenticeship. There is alot of work that needs to be down, however if these goals are met, you are reward with pay rises ever 6 months. Each placement is a new experience and allows you to create a network of individuals that you can turn to.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
First year you do the following subjects.

Electrical maintenance
Turning
Milling
Business improvements
Fluid power
Second year;
PLC
Maths

Fluid power
While on site you work towards a level 3 NVQ, and learn all areas of the business. This focused around manufacturing and the role as a skilled machinest.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
We are the first manufacturering craft apprentices for a number of years, however everything is predetermined and layed out for you. However, it is up to you to take what you can from each placement, nothing is handed to you.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
110% support. Come the end of your apprenticeship, they want a brilliant associate working from them, therefore it is in their best interest to help you when ever you require support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Likewise as the last point, BMW pays BMET to send their apprentices to the college. Therefore they to above and beyond to ensure everyone paces the course. Personal, I went to sixth from before going to college as part of the apprenticeship, and the support the college lectures give compared to sixth form teachers in 100 times better
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The training is suited for the specific job role. Each individual has different jobs therefore are given different subjects and NVQ's In the second year suited to that specific role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes. At the started of the apprenticeship all apprentices go on a five day out doors team building week at skern lodge. After this the company holds annual events towards team activities/charity.
