Summer Vacation Scheme Participant Review

The Summer Vacation Scheme involved various sessions and tasks from supervisors.
A substantial amount of insight was provided into the work done by the firm.
My day-to-day usually involved practice area talks delivered by trainees, associates, and partners from the practice area. This included the tasks and responsibilities of trainees, associates and partners. This also included a client case study.
Additionally, the talks were supplemented by tasks from my trainee supervisor. This ranged from research tasks to drafting documents.

It was very informative to learn about the business of Macfarlanes and how it operates. This involved some of the preferred ways of working, as well as questions about client attainment.
I gained an insight into trainee day-to-day life, as well as the senior roles which allowed me to think further about my career.
The roles are exciting, stimulating, and technical.

I have learnt and developed several skills:
Teamwork - working with individuals I have never met before and becoming familiar with their style and interests.
Adaptability - developing my responsiveness to others' working style.
Writing concisely - developed my ability to write in a way that lawyers prefer.

The company culture and general atmosphere was incredibly friendly and collaborative.
There was also a sense of excellence from talking to everyone I met.
There was a distinct Macfarlanes culture which included a sense of togetherness and being ambitious.

I enjoyed it very much as I could meet a range of individuals, learn and develop new skills, and gain valuable experience into a careerI want to pursue.
