Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
It involved meeting with employees from all levels at KPMG from graduate to senior partners. There were a lot of career development workshops such as interview skills, group work and personal branding. Finally we had a work shadowing session where we got to meet in teams of 2-4 a graduate doing their grad scheme and working for kpmg. All of this helped us prepared for the final day which was a lunch pad (assessment centre)
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was exciting not only understanding what’s available out there but what it looks like in a daily basis. It gave all of us a sense of confidence in our knowledge about the roles and the industry. But importantly meeting people personally allowed us to see for ourselves the culture at KPMG. Many times my peers and I discussed how we could see from ourselves that KPMG’s claims regarding their culture of collaboration and support are indeed true.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have definitely learned that I am a credible connector. As a person that sees themselves as an introvert I took this opportunity to push outside my comfort zone and got to know my peers in the program as well as many members from KPMG, this helped me with my self confidence and provided me with a strong foundation for the group assessment in the launchpad. Moreover this opportunity increased my commercial awareness of the industry and the firm by learning graduates and senior employees.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Indeed very supportive, they invested a lot of time effort and care in our experience and development. And with each personal interaction we could further understand this was the norm by hearing people’s testimonies of their own experiences. However it was also the little things, every interaction with anyone representing the firm was pleasant and reassuring. For someone from a low socioeconomic background I never felt out of place or different when interacting with anyone in kpmg

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
Highly, I didn’t expect it to be so thorough and so supportive especially for people that are just prospects. It definitely positively impacted in a big way how I view the firm. The candidates along side me also made the experience even better. We all shared similar values and got to know each other and care for each other’s story. It made going through the process easier and vastly more enjoyable. We were able to create a very strong small community

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG
Demonstrate you align with the firms values and culture they indeed are taking place inside the firm. Everyone I met at the firm demonstrated empathy and the desire to support. Is not just a marketing piece or a goal, it happens day to day in the firm. So although it sounds cliche just show the best version of yourself and be willing to learn and listen to others and I am sure KPMG will do anything to support you
