Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Java Software Developer
Implementing new enhancements to existing systems, maintenance, or carrying out migrations to new modern solutions.
Research on new technologies
Team communication and coordination with some requirement gathering from stakeholders
Testing and documenting changes
Engaging in social events and societies in and out of work
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Given extremely high responsibility, carried out massive production changes and critical migrations.
Gave live demonstrations to senior stakeholders and gathered requirements for future enhancements.
Gave technical presentations to senior leads

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Had teammates in London, Singapore and India to help me onboard to the company, they are all technical people who know what they are doing
Each intern was assigned a buddy and a mentor to go to for help as well. The buddy is usually someone who has worked on your team or closely related to your team, and to chat to informally.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Company structure is very flat , you can speak to senior people very easily
Everyone is super nice (speaking from Technology sector only) and easy to get on with
Everyone is trustworthy
Atmosphere is very inviting, open floor office, encourages a lot of chats and catch ups
Company culture is based on a lot of trust between people, and getting things done.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I absolutely loved my placement, I extended by another 9 weeks to work over the summer because of how fun it is
There was so much to learn and do and has also improved my social life
Every project was impactful and had unique learning experience

Get good grades in Year 1 and Year 2
Try and get some experience/ project done outside of university as a bonus, you can still use university projects as they are also good
Research the company well and be prepared for phone and final interviews where general questions may be asked
