EY Intern - FSO Assurance Review

On a day-to-day basis, we often began the day with insightful talks from EY employees, partners and committee members as well as hearing from many inspirational guest speakers such as June Sarpong, who spoke on Diversity and Inclusion, a talk I found particularly inspiring. After the lunch break we were given the opportunity to work in teams on a Case Study, created to represent a real audit, in preparation for a presentation.

As the internship was virtual, and cut short to only 2 weeks, there was difficulty surrounding the distribution of specific responsibilities to candidates, however, all were expected to participate in a marked, presentation task, given the responsibility to research their area and feedback in a meaningful, appropriate way.

I certainly developed my team work skills, being challenged particularly by having to develop relationships with my team members on a virtual platform. As well as this, I enjoyed expanding my skillset when being exposed to audit information I had not previously had experience with. The tasks throughout the two weeks mainly helped me develop my skills of critical analysis.

During the internship, we had continual access to a very friendly and helpful team that ensured the programme ran smoothly, ironing out any technical issues or candidate queries with impressive efficiency. We were also assigned a buddy who could provide us with answers to individual questions about general life at EY and a mentor who guided us through the presentation process.

The company culture and atmosphere was something EY highlighted to be one of their proudest assets. Very few employees/speakers presented without paying note to the unmatched, global inclusive atmosphere at EY, something I definitely noticed and felt during my time. I was extremely impressed by the warmth and friendliness of all who I encountered, as well as their evident excitement to talk to us and enthusiasm for their work.

I thoroughly enjoyed my EY Summer Internship and would highly recommend it to anyone considering partaking. I chose EY because of its culture and the evident passion shown by those who worked at the firm and I certainly experienced this firsthand during my time and hope to be given the opportunity to be part of the great community in the near future.
