Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The role consists of 2 main jobs a month, creating a PowerPoint on competitor changes and new launches and looking at price-tracking reports to see how our cars are priced against competitors, this then gets made into a PowerPoint. There will be other jobs/projects you are asked to help out with throughout the week.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Throughout the placement you are given different tasks with different levels of responsibility. At the start you are more reliant as you are new to the job but as you learn more the team will trust you with more and give you more responsibility. This carries on throughout the year with responsibility over different projects and having to present these to Senior Managers. Towards the 2nd half of the year, I was given my own model to be responsible of, showing the managers and teams trust in the intern.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I didn't know anything about Excel before I started, and Kia offer a range of Excel courses based on ability, they are also keen for employees to use LinkedIn learning to develop skills when it is less busy. I would know say I am intermediate level at Excel now because of this. I have also developed my confidence hugely through having to present to different levels in the business. Other general skills like teamwork and attention to detail will also improve through the nature of the job.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of support and guidance due to the team I was in; they were all very friendly and would always offer to help regardless of how busy they are themselves. My manager was very friendly from the offset and had a very ask me anything mentality, this also extended to personal circumstances that may affect mood/workload, everyone has your best interest at heart. There are lots of chances to get to know other parts of the business and tailor your placement to what you want to get out of it.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone is happy at Kia, and you can see this by the way people interact and are willing to help you regardless of your level or department. Kia has a very high-performance culture, everyone works really hard, but you get recognition for this by managers and the Senior Management Team.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Overall, I really enjoyed my placement even though it has been stressful at times, I am keen to return to Kia because of the year I've had, and I now know what I want to do in my career because of it. The people are lovely, your work contributes to something wider than you, making you feel like a real team member and less like a traditional intern.
