Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
It involved lots of networking sessions with members of the business, financial training led by Echios, exploration in different areas of the business such as Global Markets, Investment Banking, Risk and Technology. We also did a Trading game, a Global Markets case study and an investment banking case study. This prepared us for future opportunities.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It really helped me figure out what different roles are like and where my skills align. I learnt about roles within Global Markets, Investment banking, Risk and Texhnology. I learnt about career progressions and how people can move from different sectors and how you can come from various degree backgrounds.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I’ve developed my financial technical skills and also how to do case study’s with the case study workshop. I’ve learnt how to network and build my personal brand such as on LinkedIn. I’ve learnt how to pitch and present to an audience and prepare slides for the pitch.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone was very welcoming and warm, they let us ask any questions we had in our mind and everyone was very supportive. The company seemed like everyone was passionate about their work and everyone works collaboratively to achieve goals. It seemed very inclusive and that the firm cared for their employees.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed it and thought it gave a broad over view of the business and culture, that I wouldn’t have been able to gain online. I enjoyed meeting so many new people and hearing from various members of the business. The number of sessions was fantastic and well organised.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nomura
I would say to research a lot into the firm and make sure you understand what drives the passion behind the firm. I would learn about the different areas of the business and prepare questions to ask people at Nomura. I would say be yourself and make sure to convey your interests well.
