Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The insight week started with everyone across all divisions, where we had the chance to learn about the firm together and network. At the end of the day, we met with our HR partner, who was our key contact for the rest of the week. The rest of the week was technology specific, with a range of different sessions, group projects and insights into Technology at MS. Overall it was an amazing experience - I'd it recommend to anybody looking to go into technology.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
We learnt that there were two streams that all teams in technology sit in - Application Development or Enterprise Engineering. There's something for all technologists! I already had a good idea of general technology roles, but learning about the teams broadened my view about what is really out there. It's really reassuring to see that not everything is just software development and coding (of course though, there is a large element of this in the application development track).

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I was able to sharpen all of my soft skills because of the range of different group tasks that we had to do. We also had a nice problem solving thingy, which allowed me to explore new styles of puzzles. You will definitely improve your networking (as in people!) skills - we had so many sessions and opportunities to network with analysts who were in our position, but also managing and executive directors in the company.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I really enjoyed the insight. It's left a lasting impression on me, and I could see myself working at the firm. Everyone was so friendly, from my peers to the staff that we interacted with inside and outside the sessions. When we asked questions, I felt that they were valued. Staff always took their time to consider them carefully and provide honest, thoughtful answers. Some of the tasks made us think hard, but it was very rewarding overall.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Morgan Stanley
The process to get in is competitive, and it is increasing harder to get into Technology compared with years gone past. Make sure your application is impactful - no typos and a genuine understanding of the firm is required. There may be limited knowledge available online - that's okay. Leverage what you can find out and explain why you believe that is impactful and positive for Morgan Stanley. For HireVue, you want to answer the questions succinctly, but with enough detail to make an impact.
