Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The days were roughly split into two components. Firstly, we met various representatives from multiple service lines in Deloitte mainly focused on audit and tax. Secondly, we worked on a case study throughout the two days. This involved being put into separate groups to allow us to analyse the data and relevant information that we were given. We ended the case study by pitching our ideas to a panel of senior executives at Deloitte.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was very interesting to get insights into the differing career paths of audit and tax. Given that we had partners from both audit and tax explain their career paths and what they do, I feel much more well versed into the functions of these different divisions. Moreover, we were able to get advice from those who are a bit closer to our age group who may have passed through summer vacation schemes or placements which are highly relevant to us as undergraduate students

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I learnt how to analyse data most effectively and how to quickly select what information to pick out of a large data set. In addition, my teamwork skills improves as we worked in groups to divide the analysis of the data amongst us, as well as for structuring the final presentation. Finally, I learnt how to present my ideas more articulately through techniques like minimising filler words and having more expressive body language.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture seemed very inclusive. We were introduced to many members of Deloitte that had been with the company for 10+ years which suggests that Deloitte does a good job at retaining their employees and creating a long term workplace environment. We also met individuals from various diversity networks which showed that all types of people from various backgrounds and cultures could be catered to at Deloitte

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the Deloitte insight because we were given an opportunity to understand various aspects of the business in a much more in depth way. The case study which we worked on was also very fun, not only because it was very engaging but also because it provided a chance to gain some transferrable skills such as communication and presenting. The Q&A sessions were sometimes cut short however, which I feel minimised our chances to get to know the Deloitte employees well.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte
I would encourage them to be aware of the division to which they are applying. They should have a general understanding of what it is they may be doing as this will help them in the online hirevue stage. It is also necessary to have a good grasp of numerical reasoning as it is vital to succeed in the online tests if you want to proceed to the later stages of the application process.
