Living walls for net zero intern Review

I am helping to improve the online public engagement with Exeter Science Centre’s living walls for net zero project. Day-to-day I create social media posts, write & format text for the webpage and help out at public events we run to do with the project.

I was trusted with the responsibility of having creative control on all of my work and making small edits that my manager suggested afterwards.

Online public engagement is something I had very limited experience with since my degree involves a lot of scientific writing and other more formal communication styles. Therefore, I have gained new skills such as social media content creation & video editing which I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to learn through my degree.

I received a lot of guidance to begin with on how to use certain software and what the expectations were but after the first week or so we had weekly catch up meetings to exchange ideas and ensure I knew what work I had to do.

It is very small with only a few other team members so the atmosphere was relaxed and relatively informal which made working and the whole experience more enjoyable.

To a large extent as I was passionate about the project topic, enjoyed the type of work, was grateful for the work experience opportunity and loved tackling challenges & gaining new skills.
