Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
I would attend client calls and write the briefings of these calls afterwards. I would complete tax returns for these clients. I also would correspond through email with these clients to update them or ask for more information from them. Furthermore I attended team meetings and briefings where I could understand and develop my tax knowledge.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was interesting to see the the variety of roles and the multiple service lines the firm offers. When facing more technical language, it took me a while to be familiar with these concepts but my colleagues took time out of their day to help me. They further helped me to understand more about the business as I shadowed the partner and hopped in a lot of calls that gave me insight into more of the business and what it offers.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Yes, I learnt interpersonal and teamwork schools with colleagues. I also began to understand the technology behind the tax returns and various tax terms and processes. This gave me confidence to attempt at something new. I developed my communication skills both in person and through email. I met more new people and developed my relationship-building skills as well as my confidence to speak to people I have not met before.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
It was welcoming and friendly whilst being professional and productive. I felt empowered to ask questions and I felt comfortable to reach out if there was a problem.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
To a great extent. I enjoyed being part of a friendly yet professional work environment that both taught me a lot and looked out for me. I enjoyed getting to know more about tax and the specific department I was working in. There were fantastic networking opportunities and events. I felt I developed both personal and professional skills

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte
Understand the values at Deloitte as they are very important. Be professional, be on time and make sure you are enthusiastic about what you’re doing. I’d urge them to ask as many questions as they can to get a better insight into both their department and the company itself.
