Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
My role was to complete a fictional valuation case study while working in a team. I also had individual work to complete and had mandatory sessions regarding EY, such as learning about EY Nextwave, EY Foundation, etc. I was assigned two mentors and a buddy who guided me throughout the summer internship. The internship was virtual, and therefore was highly structured in a way to help you get a good foundation for a graduate role.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a large amount of responsibility to manage my own deadlines and to be able to produce a very high quality of work at the same time. I was given a lot of exposure to the company through live sessions which were mandatory to attend. Therefore, I had to plan my timetable accordingly in order to get the work done.

I have learned how to use Valuation multiples in valuing a company or a asset. I also learned key skills in improving my teamwork, confidence and etiquette. I have also learned how to network effectively, and I was able to improve my presentation skills by presenting to a panel of partners.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was great, everyone in my team was highly collborative, there was a lot of talks about diversity and inclusion, and we had Dr Alex come in to give us a talk about mental health. EY warm atmosphere is brilliant and rare to find in the industry. There was always someone to talk to, even if it is just for a 30 minute chat.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to EY
My advice to other people applying to EY would be to really hone down on why they want to work for EY. I personally feel the diverse and amazing culture at EY allows people to be themselves and therefore, people who are applying shouldn't worry about expressing their viewpoints. Make sure you do a lot of research on the sub service line you wish to join!
