Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the virtual experience and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The virtual experience was conducted incredibly professionally by the student recruitment team at EY. Each day was well structured with an hour for lunch and adequate breaks. Every day would start at 10:00 after registration, and end at or before 16:00. There were talks from industry professionals about topics such as resilience and building one's personal brand, and Q&As from EY partners about EY-specific queries. There was also a very enjoyable case study element, out of which group presentations were formed.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
Learning about the business and potential roles available was very insightful. EY has so many layers within it and therefore so many avenues for career progression and ways to diversify one's role once within the company. They have many internal networks, such as the LGBT network, Women's network and many more. It is clear that EY is an ethical company that strives to create a better working world through equality, diversity, acceptance, and sustainability. The culture at EY is simply fantastic.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have learnt many skills as a result of the EY summer internship for the Assurance service line. The most interesting might be the ability to learn, develop and recognise the importance of my own personal brand, and how this is key to my success and career progression in the future. Working in a good team for the group presentation also taught me valuable collaboration skills, and the talk on resilience I believe will prove very helpful in future.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the virtual experience
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was fantastic. Instantly on starting the internship, I felt at home and comfortable. Each speaker was personable and friendly. Each EY employee that I had contact with was helpful, approachable, and eager to assist us in any way they could. Initially I was a bit apprehensive that the internship might be overly corporate, as did others (there was a word cloud at the beginning in which many people said that they felt nervous). However, all nerves melted away as the internship progressed.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
I enjoyed the virtual experience to a very large extent, and would jump at the opportunity to do it again! Each speaker was engaging and had something insightful to say. The team that I was group with was fantastic - they are all amazing individuals and we have connected on social media, and I'm grateful to EY for giving me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people, albeit virtually. Due to the internship, I am ever more eager to work at EY in the future.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
Be yourself! The firm really is based on its people, and they are always put first. The culture is not overly corporate, so you don't need to be nervous in the slightest about a potential career with EY. The application process is super competitive, so begin early! I was moved off the waiting list, thankfully, so I can't emphasise enough how much I wish I'd got my application and assessments sorted sooner!
