Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the virtual experience and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
There was a different set agenda for each day of the two week internship - sessions ranged from fun activities such as quizzes to dedicated learning on the culture of EY and the profession we are looking to go into. We also had regular opportunities to take part in Q&As with partners and directors in the firm, as well as taking part in regular case study sessions with fellow interns to get a taste for what working in assurance may be like. The experience was set up to allow us to get a feel for what the people culture at EY is like and what it would be like to work there full time as a graduate.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
I found the experience was brilliantly tailored in a way that allowed you to gain a deep insight into the various services EY provides to its clients around the world and was able to hear from people at every level of the business about what they do and why it is important. I learned a lot about how your career could typically progress in specific service lines and how this changes your responsibilities and day to day job. EY offers a plethora of potential roles for new joiners in many different service and sub-service lines that we were able to hear about.
But I think learning about the people culture at EY was the best part. It was incredibly refreshing to hear about how many resources and how much time EY dedicates to help build the long-term value of their employees and support them through every stage of their career.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have learnt many new skills - particularly building on my ability to work in a group of people I don't know and present as a team. As well as this, sessions dedicate to learning about how to build your personal brand, build resilience, emotional intelligence etc. allowed me to become more self-aware with regards to my strengths and how I can convey these to people at work.

How would you rate business leader involvement during the virtual experience
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Every EY professional we had the pleasure of speaking to offered such in-depth insights into the culture of the business and the unanimous conclusion was that EY's people culture is one of diversity, inclusiveness and support. The vast networks of support they offer and widely accessible benefits to all employees shows how much they care about each employee individually and how much they want to bolster everyone's career, while ensuring home life isn't subservient

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the virtual experience?
I thoroughly enjoyed my virtual experience - of course I was initially disappointed that my internship was not going to be in person but the way it has adapted online has allowed me to feel as if I've had the same experiences as I would in person - I've learned about the culture, had opportunities to network with fellow interns and EY professionals, and received significant help for preparing for my interview for the EY graduate scheme

Recommendations and Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY
It's so important to be authentic throughout the application process - your personal values and curiosity for the business is far more important than your academic prowess and they will look at your personality and values throughout the process. Make sure you remain confident and communicative throughout the process, but don't worry about having to know everything there is to know about the career you want to go into.
