Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The role was online and involved attending lots of live stream talks on different topics like personal brand, development, team work. The talks generally took up the mornings with the afternoons reserved for a case study that we worked on as a group, giving a presentation at the end of the case study.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Our case study involved pretended to be an audit team and making a presentation to our "Audit Partner". Through this we were responsible for managing the allotted group time, working together, creating the presentation. We made sure to listen to our entire group and had to ensure we had time to practice our presentation before delivering it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Definitely had time to work on my group working skills, communication was as always essential. We had to work together to talk outside of the internship as the platform didn't allow for "chats". Also improved on my listening as the talks required more attention to stay focused than they would in person

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
There were many opportunities to ask questions to grads, managers, and even partners. We were assigned two mentors for our case study who we then presented our findings to. The mentors were very accessible and easy to speak to, however I don't think they were fully briefed on our case study prior to meeting us

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
It seems like a very people oriented company, which stressed to us many times over the course of the internship. The general atmosphere of the internship was quite laidback and friendly, although I'm not sure how this compares to say the atmosphere in an office as the experience was all virtual.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I think the internship was very well structured to try to make sure we were getting as close to an in person experience as possible, however there definitely is something about an in person experience that cannot be replicated online. Some of the "extra" sessions were really fun, like end of internship celebrations, a chat from Dr Alex on mental wellbeing, and a guided meditation

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to EY
Apply early if possible as that way you can choose exactly which service line you want to be on. Definitely use online practice tests if you can find them for the assessments because they are beneficial. Be yourself! There are times when it feels like they are looking for a specific answer but if you feel like you have to change your personality to fit into the job then you will hate the job
