Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I listened to lots of presentations from different areas of the business, including mental health, diversity and inclusion. We also worked in small groups on a fictional case study which we made a presentation on, with aid from a dedicated mentor.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Not much as it was only a virtual internship so there was little we could contribute without being in an office. But I can see how if this was in person you would be given responsibility to do a real case study rather than fictional which would add value to the actual company.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learnt lots about presentation skills, both making and presenting, and how to work in a team who you are not familiar with. Additionally I have learnt many interview tips and dealing with mental health issues and business etiquette.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Lots, we were given buddies (people on the grad scheme) who we spoke to twice and could ask them anything. When working through our case studies we were given a group mentor who we met multiple times to help us with that. Furthermore in every presentation there was plenty of opportunity to ask as many questions as you wanted.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Really great. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be a part of the internship and the team tried hard to make it fun for us as we were stuck at home by including quizzes and games to get everyone involved and break the ice!

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I loved it. Considering it was online which was a shame as it meant we didn't actually meet anyone properly. But you could tell the team tried to hard to make it fun for us at home and kept it interesting by having a wide range of different presentations to keep us engaged rather than listening to one person all day. I would definitely recommend.

What advice would you give to others applying to EY
Be yourself! Everything we were taught was to be yourself, as they care about who you are as a person to see if the culture is actually for you. Don't worry if you don't have the technical knowledge you think you might need as loads of people don't!
