Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Each day would last from 9.30-16.00 and would be all be run on the EY internship platform. The mornings were generally spent in Q&As sessions with senior staff as well as sessions about sustainability and diversity at EY. In the afternoons we worked on a case study with fellow interns.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
We were given responsibility to complete a presentation based on a case study. We had to split up the work between our other interns and come together near the end of the placement to present. I think we were given a fair amount of responsibility to ensure this presentation was complete on time and to a high standard.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have been able to improve my confidence my interacting with other interns. We were encouraged by the EY staff to turn on our cameras and mics so that we could get to know each other. I also experienced working as a team virtually which I something I hadn’t done much of before.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
We received lots of support and guidance during the internship. The student recruitment team were always available if we needed to ask anything. In our groups we were also supported by both a buddy and a mentor who answered questions about working at EY whilst also helping with case study questions.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
From the first day it was clear the company culture was all about the people. Every member of staff we spoke to mentioned how personable and accommodating everyone is. This varied from how newer colleagues were supported with their exams through to how more senior colleagues were supported with promotions.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed the summer internship as it gave me an opportunity to learn about the culture of EY and my service line more specifically. I also got to network with other interns who had similar interests to myself. The only improvement would have been for the experience to be in person.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to EY
The advice I would give to people applying is to look into EY as a company and understand what their values are and the initiatives they are involved in. I would also advice them to start applying early as the application is quite long and it can take a while to move between the stages.
