Shared Service Centre Summer Intern Review

In advisory team:
•Learnt about business restructuring, TPS payment processing and cheque postings.
•Completed Xero training with hands-on experience of using a demo company to manage customer quotes and invoices, set up and reconcile bank accounts, and manage expense claims.
In tax team:
•Utilised the training map well and had the chance to practise several case studies.
•Had optimisation training and worked on corporate tax computations using Alphatax.
In data analytics team:
•Learnt the entire process of ETL (Extraction of trial balance and journal data, Transformation using Qlikview Data Loader, Load onto Qlikview Workbook).
In audit team:
•Had hands-on experience to do Casting and Consistency and adhered to BDO's quality standards in all tasks performed.
•Participated in Hedgebook training and learnt how companies use interest rate swaps for hedging purposes.

Yes, I have done several real-work simulations which enhanced my professional skills and consolidated my understanding of the knowledge learnt from shadowing sessions.

•I have developed a strong logical and analytical mind, crucial for differentiating allowable and disallowable expenses, which is essential for tax work.
•This skill enhances my ability to understand and apply complex tax regulations and computations accurately.
•The enhanced analytical capabilities will support my aspiration to join BDO's Corporate International Tax team in London for my graduate role, where precise tax work is critical.
•The logical approach cultivated during this internship will also aid in handling intricate tax issues, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, accurate and compliant tax solutions.
•I believe these skills will be a strong foundation and help me tackle challenging coursework and exams during my pursuit of ICAEW and CIOT qualifications under the ACA/CTA Joint Programme.
•This development aligns with my long-term goal of becoming a chartered accountant and a Chartered Tax Adviser at the same time, positioning me to excel in the tax field and contribute significantly to BDO's tax team.

The support and guidance I have received from both my people manager and the colleagues were very great, all of them were extremely friendly and helpful.
