Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
On a day-to-day basis, I draft compliance letters to HMRC. This can either be self reporting or responding to a claim. I also do tax computations for clients, which is where i'm assisting in doing a personal return for individuals or returns for corporations. I have researched regulations and information for upcoming projects or for specific cases where the regulations are complex.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes I was given responsibility during my internship. I had the responsibility of drafting work for clients. This was then either sent directly to the client or to HMRC. This was with the review of a manager but the responsibility still fell on me to do the work.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
My office 365 skills have improved. My ability in excel has massively improved along with powerpoint and word. This is through the form of presentations and drafting letters and a lot of tax work is based in excel. I have also learnt the software that is used in tax returns. This has allowed me to be helpful in the team and provide assistance where needed.

I received plenty of support. The Early in Careers team gave us a lot of resources during our time to give us the best possible opportunity to succeed during our internship.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was a very friendly and inclusive. Everyone gave up their time to answer any questions and help and support me when needed. The office was very sociable and activities were undertaken together
