Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Assurance intern involved casting accounts ensuring that the financial statements are consistent throughout. It also involves having internal meetings with your team to inform them how you’re getting on and the stage of work you are at. It can also involve working at the clients site which may involve carrying out testing such as verifying that fixed assets are what the company says they are
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility on the internship. For example, my team were working on sight at one of our clients and one of the tests was fixed asset verifications. I was trusted to do this on my own. This involved me walking around the client site with an employee of the client showing me different assets which we were testing to ensure that the assets actually existed

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Excel skills are important for the job and I have developed my skills learning new formulas and shortcuts which I can use in the future. I also learnt how to communicate effectively with seniors in order to ensure that the audit runs smoothly. It has also helped to develop my attention to detail as that is essential in the field of audit

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
My teams were very helpful and answered any questions that I had regarding the job. They were also very friendly taking us out for lunch to meet the other team members. My buddy also helped me complete my time sheet and also helped me with any general questions I had which wasn’t client related

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The atmosphere was very friendly and the teams I worked in were very accommodating. The office ran a social which enabled the interns to meet others in the office helping the transition into the office.

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I really enjoyed my internship this summer and it has provided me with valuable experience which I will be able to use in my career. Everyone was so accommodating making me feel included in my teams and making me feel that my work was valued by the team
