Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I undertook rent reviews and lease renewals, using the comparison method to analyse availability and completed transactions to assess the estimated market rental value of the subject property. The comparison method was carries out by using property websites, such as costar and rightmove, as well as using information from agents.
This was all used in combination with a report that allowed me to give the geographical context, my assumptions and explanations for me ERV.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of responsibility, making it one the reasons I enjoyed it so much. From day one, I was expected to work and I was expected to work as part of the team. This bit I loved because my team was lovely and I have had wanted to learn and they were very willing to help me.
This responsibility meant I was able to feel very comfortable within the office, which added to the family feel of the office.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have been able to learn how to effectively talk to other agents to gain the relevant information to come to an informed conclusion on an ERV.
I have also developed both my network and my networking skills. Talking to both people in the office and people within the real estate industry has helped me gain a wider understanding of the current market.
Finally I learnt all about the incentives and what the implications of those incentives offered. Rent frees are extremely common and extended rent frees in offices are now essential.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I was given lots of guidance, but only when I asked for it. The other members of the team were very willing to let me work on my own, until I needed help, which was when I asked. The setup we had going was very dynamic and meant that we completed a significant amount of work.
Guidance was plentiful - the whole office provided it, making sure we knew what different options were available to us moving forward, and also with our current work.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The best way to describe it is 'family like'. The way the members of the office all were so accepting of us and took us under their wing aided with our learning.
The culture was also very sociable. There was often a social where we could get to chat with everyone in the office. This was a great way of getting to know everyone in the office better.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I loved this internship. I learnt so much - both about lease advisory and about every other aspect of the business. I also loved it because everyone was so friendly and willing to help you learn. This is not that common. Therefore, it is necessary to take the most of the chance whilst you have it.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cushman & Wakefield to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Cushman & Wakefield
Just do it. I would also recommend going regional, but if there's no option but London then apply to London. I think regional is better because there is far more exposure and in an internship, you want as much exposure as you can possibly get.
I would also recommend to go into the whole internship with an open mind. I would say to not write anything off before you start because you never know, you may be involved with a project on a subject you don't like but you love the project.
