Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The role involved main ad-hoc tasks/activities all based around building rapport with Clients that EY support/ will support within the future. Some of these included; creating reports for clients, helping organise roundtables, attending regular client meetings, and being involved in the creation of Proposals for clients within tight deadlines at the Client's request. Note- these are just a few of the great opportunities I got exposed to during my 10-month placement at EY.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given lots of responsibility during my 10-month placement, especially as I began to progress within my first few months and was deemed as a reliable individual to undertake tasks, some of which included:
- Production of complicated billing report and procurement activity updates for the procurement team of one of our clients
- Taking the lead on running regular Roundtable events from the beginning (organising agenda, invites) to the end (following up on the session for feedback)
The above are just a few examples.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Many new skills learnt/developed through my placement, a few noted below:
1.) Confidence and the ability to share my perspective in scenarios
2.) Organisation & arranging events with external suppliers and clients
3.) Microsoft Skills including complex excel techniques
4.) Knowledge within the Financial Services Industry through additional learning opportunities at EY including EY badges
5.) Ability to interact efficiently with Internal Stakeholders (including equity partners) in addition to interaction with C-Suite Clients on a regular basis via email and teams call as well as in-person events.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
EY couldn't have been more supportive during my time at EY, there is a lot of things in place to ensure we have someone to ask questions to at all times. When joining the firm, each employee is allocated a Counsellor who is independent to the work I am doing/ my direct team but understands enough to be able to support if I had any questions. Additionally to this, students who join the firm are given a buddy. This is someone a couple of years older who we can go to for any advice at any time throughout our time at EY.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
One word to describe the culture at EY is inclusive and with well-being always being at the centre of everything. Throughout my time at EY, I have felt extremely appreciated by the firm and my colleagues and I am regularly praised when achieved successful outputs/outcomes. The firm has many things in place to support career progression.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
To a high extent- the placement has allowed me to realise what I enjoy and where my strengths and development areas sit. I am hoping to join the firm again on the Graduate scheme if I was to be successful

What advice would you give to others applying to EY
I think at an Industrial Placement stage, it is important to know that you don't need to know all of the ins and outs of the knowledge relating to how EY functions and knowledge regarding the Industry that you will be working in. The most important thing is to go in with an open-mind, with willingness to learn new things and have a go at solving problems. You won't always get it right but with the knowledgeable people around you and the learning tools from EY you can only succeed if you are willing to learn and have a positive work attitude.
