Consulting Insight Programme Review

-Day 1 -invite to office- intro to KPMG, capabilities, what they do, clients, introduced to leaders within the firm, session on careers- talk about career growth, personal development to meet career goals, network with other applicants and KPMG employees
-Day 2- more about the roles within KPMG- deep dive into launchpad- briefing, how to prepare, told how to answer questions, types of questions to expect etc.
-Day 3- Launchpad: group case study, interview. Case study= discussion, 5 per group, situation presented on a document- discuss between yourselves

The insight programme did a great job of explaining the types of role available and different streams. I was able to understand the progression route for a consultant from 3 years as a graduate, to assistant manager, manager, senior manager, director, partner. I was exposed to different teams in consulting including Customer, Operational Transformation, Forensic, Risk & Regulatory, Actuarial, Governance, Risk & Compliance Services (GRCS) and People Consulting. Learning that many people moved across divisions e.g. from audit and consulting was interesting.

- I gained a deeper insight into consulting, different types of consulting e.g. forensics, financial services, operational, people, and learnt about the day to day role of a financial crimes prevention consultant in forensics, and the importance of the discipline.
- I learnt how to answer strength based interview questions, how to format a response using STAR, and how to demonstrate strengths in a structured and concise way.
- I gained a deep insight into KPMG, hearing from people across audit, consulting and tax

I was able to have several conversations with KPMG consultants, and each person emphasised a strong sense of community at KPMG. I have been told there is a supportive culture, where people are always willing to point you in the right direction or offer support, allowing for constant development. I have been told that this supportive culture is a big differentiating factor of KPMG from other Big 4 firms, leading to very high employee satisfaction.

I thoroughly enjoyed the insight programme. I really enjoyed the several presentations from senior members of the firm, who walked us through their career journeys. Being able to see their careers journeys and success was encouraging and motivating. I also enjoyed the insight session with a consultant, who talked us through his career journey from audit to consulting, and answered our questions. My favourite part was meeting so many peers and connecting with the people I could be working with in the future.
