Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
In the morning’s we would have a talk or panel discussion with a member of staff. This would involve discussing what life is like in their field of work and advice needed to make it in the banking industry. Lunch would be accompanied by a networking session with more members of staff. The afternoon sessions were more interactive and hands-on.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was good to get a briefing of a wide variety of areas in banking available to me . UBS placed an emphasis on keeping my options open and everyone did well in presenting the different divisions of a bank and what a role in that division would entail. With regards to the business, I enjoyed the culture. A warm environment was created and it felt judgement-free. I was comfortable to ask questions no matter how silly they seemed.

I most definitely developed my networking skills and built up my confidence with interacting with others. We also learnt about negotiations and trading however the skills we learnt were very entry level.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company placed an importance on the three keys to success: Pillars, Principles and Behaviours. I’d say there was a great feel of oneness within the bank. There was really a collaborative environment with everyone mixing with everyone. There was a really friendly atmosphere and the members of staff showed that they cared about me, which reflected in general discussion in between activities. Overall, I got the sense that UBS cares a great deal about Junior Talent.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
Overall, it was an experience that I’ll value a great deal. I was able to learn a lot about myself during that time. There was a good level of interaction. This was helpful in ensuring that everyone remained engaged with the content and there was a really good level of focus across the full days. When I was leaving on the sad day it was a bittersweet to say the least.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS
Make sure that UBS is a good fit for you. You should be able to get a feel of whether you enjoy the environment when you’re doing a spring week. On the other hand you could even be going through the culture of the company and making sure that you align with the values. With UBS specifically, the most important thing I’d say is to be yourself. UBS values individuality so let your personality shine through.
