Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The first week we spent most of the time in the desks we were assigned. In my case, I was in the GII team and I had the opportunity to get an insight to what they do. The second week, we had trainings for two days. It was very useful as we learnt a lot using excel and also revising accounting. Public speaking sessions have also being very relevant, and I definitely believe that presenting has helped us improve.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was very useful, as even though I didn’t come with the ideas so clear, by talking to people performing different roles I’ve been able to see what i’m more interested in. Understanding about how different the potential roles and how meany options there are has made me realise that I can definitely find my place in the industry.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have definitely developed my communication skills, as being an introvert I’ve had to face challenges when presenting. I think that I also improved my abilities using Excel and Power Point, as I’m much more accurate now. I also developed my analytical skills, as during my time at the desks I was able to read pitches and relevant documents that have helped me understand the role of the GII team.

Company Culture

How would you rate business leader involvement during the insight
5/5
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Nomura’s culture is definitely the first thing I would mention when talking about my experience here. Before the programme I had very positive feelings about how the culture was, but it has overcome my expectations. The first days in the desk I realised how good the atmosphere is, as I even had the opportunity to go for a drink after work with many people of GII.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I enjoyed my insight much more than I expected, and I came with great expectations. I think they offered us many opportunities to know about the business and learn about different positions and roles. However, apart from this, I believe that the culture and the willingness to include us in their activities these two weeks is the reason for which I’ve had such a great time at Nomura. I’m really looking forward to coming back soon.

Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nomura
I was a little bit nervous before the programme began, and my suggestion to other candidates that apply would definitely be to enjoy the experience from the first moment. It’s a very short experience and I advice to make it as much useful as possible, try to network with as much people as you can and try to keep in contact. Also, when spending time on the desks be available to help everyone.
