Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The programme was held online this year, and each day involved logging onto Teams calls, which varied from whole-group panel and information sessions, case study work in groups of 4/5 and work shadowing. The final day included a 2.5 hour assessment centre for an internship place the following summer.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was quite daunting at first because I had no idea that there were so many sub-areas within Deal Advisory, but at the end it was very rewarding. I left the programme with a much greater understanding of KPMG and the future roles available, mostly because of panel session with Directors and Partners which was really inspiring and informative.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I greatly improved my teamwork and presentation skills: the group work enabled me to quickly get to know others and work together to produce a solid presentation, which we then gave to two colleagues within Deals at KPMG. It was invaluable to practice my public speaking speaks and get useful feedback from managers at KPMG. My networking skills have also improved greatly and I feel more confident in approaching people now.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
I really felt like the friendly nature of KPMG came through - all of the talks we had from colleagues at the firm spoke about how nice everyone is and how there is a big culture of collaboration. There is lots of opportunity to do volunteering and charity work alongside regular work as well as many networks within the firm to meet people with similar interests as you.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed the programme because the events planned throughout were varied and allowed lots of opportunities to collaborate and ask questions. The student recruitment team who ran the programme were friendly and approachable, and the fact that there were only 20 of us meant that we could all get to know each other. I left with a good understanding of the company culture and with many new connections!

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG
Make sure you have thoroughly researched the company and the strengths they are looking for in candidates, and come up with examples of how you've demonstrated each strength for the video interview. For the numerical assessments, take your time and read the questions properly so you know exactly what to do - the questions are not mathematically difficult but are more testing how well you can use different bits of data together.
