Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
We attended firm-wide sessions covering the structure of GS, participated in roundtables with senior management, asking questions and learning about their career paths, and attended brief sessions explaining the work of each team. We also developed projects in small groups, which consisted of independent research, interviewing staff at GS and creating a presentation.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
We were shown a diverse range of different roles just within the Operations division, and given clear insight into the structure of the organisation. The information was conveyed effectively, even through short sessions, giving a good picture of how the business works. For a selection of roles, we also learned what the day-to-day involved, providing a high level of understanding about life at GS.

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
To a large extent! I felt very mentally stimulated, especially during my project, and found everyone pleasant and easy to talk to. The content was interesting and the experience overall positive (even if tiring at times!).

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Goldman Sachs Group
Research the divisions well before applying, and make sure you are comfortable with a role that has a very narrow focus, and team elements. For operations, think of some scenarios when you have improved efficiency and solved problems! Also, be as inquisitive as possible.
