Yes I was given a lot of responsibility. I was given mundane tasks to do in conducting risk assessments which did teach me a lot about the process of risk management. I was also expected to attend most client meetings and take minutes, from which I had to analyse risks and evaluate the client’s progress based on the information I gathered from the meetings.

Technical skills: An understanding of technology risks, including cyber security vulnerabilities, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
Analytical skills: Gather and analyse large amounts of data to identify and assess technology risks.
Communication skills: Communicating complex technical information to clients, senior management, and other technical professionals. Also able to write clear and concise reports and presentations.
Problem-solving skills: Able to think critically and come up with creative solutions.

I received a lot of support. All interns were assigned a buddy who was less senior than a manager and therefore had a reasonable amount of time to support and help interns whenever they needed it. My buddy helped me network with many useful contacts and was there for me whenever I needed it, as well as checking in on me often.

Generally laid back. It’s full of hard workers without a doubt but there wasn’t an expectation to work overtime. The company seemed very social and hosted lots of events, including well-being events, and after work drinks.

I thoroughly enjoyed the placement as there was a lot of opportunity to attend social and corporate events, and network with as many people as possible. I believe I got a lot out of the 6 weeks I was there and I enjoyed being kept busy every day.
