Electrical Engineering Intern Review

Day to day tasks are set by the Lead Electrical Engineer. They involve assisting with the current project with calculations and documents. Some of my tasks were cable calculations, UPS sizing, PFD and P&ID revision.

It is up to the individual to make the most of the internship. My colleagues were very helpful if I was stuck and were good at sharing knowledge.
Mostly, you are left to complete the work yourself and you can get help if you require it. You are responsible for all correspondence and completing the assigned work

Very good introduction to the workplace. Gives a good view as to the functions within the engineering office.
Many new skills have been learnt. I am significantly better at reading PFD and P&ID documents now. I am much better acquainted with engineering procedure and document layouts.
I have been able to apply the engineering knowledge and maths that I have been learning at university.

Excellent support. I was provided with a buddy who was a young engineer on the graduate training program. The lead electrical engineer was very helpful and took time to explain tasks and the roles within the project.
I had a Line Manager who managed the electrical engineering for the offices. We had regular contact to manage my progress.
There were meetings with other engineers in the graduate program and a graduate social.

Excellent culture. Everyone is hard working.
The office does hybrid working with a general 3 days in office a week.
The office is usually pretty full and it is encouraging to see the office with plenty of people in it.

Really enjoyed the internship. Great opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience in the engineering workplace while still at university.
