Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

- calling HMRC on behalf of clients
- attending client meetings and internal team meetings
- writing update emails to clients
- reviewing tax returns
- validating invoices
- reviewing prior period adjustment calculations

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

As an analyst at Deloitte I believe I was given responsibility and I also believe my work was important and counted towards the teams progress on projects. Despite this I did not feel overwhelmed as I had a good support system in place throughout my internship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have developed my communication skills by building rapport with team members and clients. I was given the opportunity to developed my email etiquette by drafting update emails to Deloitte clients on a daily basis. I learnt how to use Microsoft Excel to complete technical tax work.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I believe I received as much support o could have asked for. I had an informal contact (“my buddy”) who I met with on a daily basis who answered any questions and ensured I was receiving the right amount of work. I also had a meeting with my line manager weekly to ensure I was meeting my objectives.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

Overall I Would say I enjoyed my placement because it exceed my expectations in every metric. I was given work that contributed to the teams success. This meant I had to learn new skills but with the support of my team not only was I able to produce high quality work but I was able to achieve my objectives.
