Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
In my two rotations I made very different tasks. Generally you are given an individual project which you should work on approx 30% of the time (but it varies form team to team), but also you are requested to help the team with daily tasks.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I would say yes, pretty much. My team will use the tools that I created for them, and they will use some of my work also with clients and other people on the floor.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Absolutely. I don't study Finance so it was all pretty new to me, but I feel like I've learnt so much. Both in the credit derivative sector and macro / fx events. Also improved my webscraping skills with programming languages.

It depends on the day, generally the teams are very busy but there is always someone that tries to find time to help. Some days are just more busy

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Nomura has a great culture. Majority of the people on the floor are very nice and keen to help. I didn't expect this welcoming environment. Impressive

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I had a very good time here, and I think it has been an incredible experience. I have met so many people and also some friends that I hope I will bring with me in the future.

Don't be scared to be yourself, the industry is so diverse and it needs this diversity to thrive. And I think Nomura is a great place where to make this effort.
