Global Markets Summer Analyst Review

Working on projects that managers has assigned which helps facilitate the smooth running of the team. The projects are mainly on data analytics, data visualization and understanding the data that is to do with the team.

I believe the amount of responsibility given to me is on the right amount which keeps me interested and is a reasonable amount of responsibility throughout the internship.
The deadlines are very sensible and in most cases, are set by myself. I am also given a lot of time to shadow someone else who is not necessarily in any sense linked to my desks' function.

I started the internship knowing very minimally about finance. Nomura has done a huge amount of effort to get us on par with everyone else in terms of Finance Knowledge. My managers have also paid a lot of effort and time to let us understand how the business runs. I have developed extensively on my skills in using several important Python libraries on data visualization and have gained a solid understanding on how the Quantitative Side of the business runs.

Nomura has a buddy and mentorship scheme which assigns someone who entered the firm not long ago and a senior member respectively, where the two of them has given me a tremendous amount of help and guidance throughout the internship, and for my future career as well. The support and guidance my managers have given me is also very helpful - my manger assigns at least an hour per week to catch up with me and learn about my progress, as well as making sure I am happy with the work.

Very chilled and enjoyable. Our team has lunch together everyday where we have casual discussions and occasionally go to pubs to have pints, which makes me feel very welcomed into the team.
Nomura in general has a very good culture where the HR team arranges volunteering days and we turn the balcony to a pub every Thursday night.
People are very open to talking as well and welcomes you to shadow them on their work.

I really enjoyed my internship. I feel that I am included as a member in the team where I am actively engaged in good conversations with my team members. Everyone in here is also willing to teach on their specialties and is happy to assign time for chats regardless of how busy they are.
