Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As an intern I rotated with two different desks within the Global Markets group of UBS. I got to shadow people working, having one-on-ones with colleagues and managers, helping with different tasks, and working on a main project. On top of that, I participated in social events, weekly markets warps, speaker sessions, trading games, market making games, roundtables with senior management, etc. It is very diversified and changes from day to day.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
For me this was depending on the desk because as an intern I was not allowed or authorized to participate in some tasks (e.g. actual trading). Although, in general I have the feeling that managers give you responsibility where it is possible so that you can still have an useful contribution to the team.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed my internship a lot. I liked the whole package from working in a big city to having the opportunity to learn a lot from more experienced people. It can be a little stressful at times when you have to do presentations or have to participate in one of the games but this is also part of the learning process.
