Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I have been working on different audits across my 6 week internship. I attend daily team meeting to discuss progress and progression of the audit. I have had the opportunity to work across multiple aspects of the audit process and have been involved in the testing and sampling of these. I am responsible for set FSA's of the audit but have a team to support me if I have any questions. I have also had the opportunity to work on the client site and interact with clients.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
During the various audits I have participated in I have been given responsibility for set FSA's or set Sections of the audit. Despite the high level of responsibility I have been given, I have always had a more senior member of staff available to assist me should I have any questions. I feel the level of responsibility I have been given is the right level as it has pushed me to develop my technical knowledge and learn more about the audit processes that I am carrying out.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
This internship has provided me with a much deeper understanding of an auditor's responsibilities and the stages and process of an audit. Working in an auditing environment has allowed me to have a stronger knowledge of the basics of accountancy that are required in this role. Interacting with both colleagues and clients has strengthened my interpersonal and professional skills. This internship has also given me the opportunity to develop my technical knowledge of the industry while productively contributing to the team.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I believe the level of support and guidance I have been given is just right. I have a people manager who is there to support me and available to answer any general questions I have. My people manager has made the transition into the company very easy and we have regular catch up meetings to discuss my progress towards the objectives I set at the start of my internship. From an audit perspective, there has always been a more senior member of staff to guide me through my work and discuss the steps I need to take before I start working.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture has been amazing. Everyone I have interacted with has been very friendly and willing me to help me at any point should I have some questions. The company culture has been very people based and personable which is nice. The company culture is as described by the company before applying and matches well. I am very impressed with the overall working conditions and atmosphere at BDO. Would reccomend working at this company to others.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at BDO due to the ethos and atmosphere of the company as well as the range of people I have had the opportunity to interact with and work alongside. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to explore the audit industry and develop their technical knowledge. I have had the opportunity to explore many areas of the audit process and understand the reasoning behind. BDO has an atmosphere that aligns well with their values.

Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to BDO
Ensure you do your research about the company before the application process to ensure you present yourself in the best light. Be friendly, personable and engaged with all stages of the application process whether online or face to face. Although no audit experience is needed for the internship I would recommend having a basic understanding of what audit is and your motivations as this will be beneficial in the interview process especially the assessment centre.
