Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Within this particular role there were multiple daily tasks that were required to be completed. The daily orderbook would have to completed everyday, on particular days of the week orderbooks for some of the associated distributors were also completed. Monthly reports were carried out throughout the week alongside handling any customer enquiries and creating quotations for customers. With regards to the marketing role, I had to ensure that both the website and datasheets were updated.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given a lot of responsibility throughout my placement, this was shown by me completing quotations, monthly reports and managing the Bicon Components Website individually. Of course when required, there was help available from colleagues who were happy to provide assistance where they could. Furthermore, attending the two exhibitions throughout the year with a few colleagues was another demonstration of responsibility given to me throughout my placement.

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Throughout this placement role I have developed my skills in using Microsoft Excel, as this programme is used for almost every task required within this job role. Previous to starting this placement I had not heard of the SAP programme, after completing my placement I have a better understanding of this particular programme which is a vital programme that is utilised around the world.

As previously mentioned, throughout the placement role whenever I needed there was always someone around who was happy to provide assistance on particular tasks.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Within the office there was a very friendly atmosphere, which helped with asking questions about work a lot easier. On every Wednesday after work, a few members of the office and the factory would go out to play 5 a-side football which was a very enjoyable experience and a good way to create a friendly relationship with the co-workers.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Overall, I did enjoy my placement throughout the year. Having the responsibility of completing major tasks to ensure that the office is running smoothly was a great experience. I never felt like each day was the same, there was always multiple tasks everyday so having to manage these tasks effectively was beneficial for me and my future development. Also the opportunity to attend large exhibitions and represent the company was also a great experience.

Apply for the role! Although at first the tasks may seem daunting, you are not expected to know how to complete these task straight away. And by the end of the placement you will realise how much you have developed and it's well worth giving it a try!
