Actuarial Consultant Review

On a day-to-day basis, this role varies greatly depending on the project that you are working on. One example of what this could include, is helping to process and review model runs, analysing annuity reserves and helping prepare presentations for clients.

I given the opportunity to complete various tasks with a large degree of independence. There was an expectation to be proactive in learning and picking up new information quickly and asking questions when clarification was needed.

During the course of this internship, I have gained a familiarity with much of the jargon used in the insurance industry. I have also had the opportunity to greatly develop and improve my Excel skills and knowledge, utilising pivot tables, power queries and various other advanced Excel functions. Further, I have advanced many soft skills, particularly communication - both internally, with my team and manger, as well as externally, with clients.

There was great support when needed. I had multiple contacts who I felt able to reach out to when I needed clarification, and it was encouraged to ask questions.

The general atmosphere at Deloitte was incredibly welcoming and encouraging. It is a very people-oriented company, and this was strongly felt through the environment. In general, people are very friendly and willing to help. Deloitte incorporates a hybrid working model, allowing flexibility in your work. There is a good work-life balance.

Although there were some tech issues which slowed down my ability to access and proceed with some of the work, there were in the end sorted. Overall, I had a very positive experience at Deloitte, and very much enjoyed my internship. From the incredible work environment that Deloitte cultivates, to the various skills I learnt and developed on this internship, I would highly recommend applying if one is interested in actuarial consulting.
