Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
Placed within a project and then from there support them in anyway possible. For me this involved shadowing, attending client meetings, notetaking, PowerPoint creation etc...
The day-to-day role will depend heavily on what team/project you are assigned to as some get the interns much more involved than others. There is also opportunities to do learning courses if you have some free time. Also throughout the entire experience is a lot of talking to people.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was not given any real responsibility. The internship is too short to be given any work other than admin/busy work. The only responsibility I had was to not make any huge mistakes and to turn up and engage. However, I still participated in almost anything a regular member of the team would be expected to do. for example client socials, internal and external meetings, well-being checks for the team so I do not feel as if I missed out on much.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have learned some technological skills such as SAP but mostly just soft skills such as networking and being able to quickly understand complex topics. I am also much better at PowerPoint and excel formatting. I'm also slightly better at presentations after creating and presenting one to a group of judges. I think what I mostly learned was just what the life of a business consultant is like and what work and projects they do.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I received support from a number of different sources. I had a buddy, councilor, line manager and the student recruitment team. The support from my councilor, buddy and student recruitment was excellent as they were familiar with the internship process and were very supportive. However in the first couple of weeks my line manager was not that helpful as she did not understand how the internship worked and unfortunately I joined at a very busy time.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture was good, every social I was invited to was fun and no one was rude to me because of my lack of experience. The other inters were also very nice and I found it easy to make friends with them. However there is a culture of hard work and a number of the other interns were swamped with work and I did hear from colleagues about some of them havong to work 9-9 consistently for a couple of weeks

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I did enjoy my time at EY as a business consultant intern. However the internship was much too short. It made it hard to really get involved in a project and I know other interns that weren't able to get adequate feedback as they got unlucky with project allocation and the feedback was due before they worked with enough people. However my time here has been enjoyable and I do think I have a much better idea of this industry.

Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to EY
You need to practice doing these tests and interviews. The video interview especially is hard and almost all the big companies make you do them. The only way to get good at them is practice as they are weird and time pressured. STAR method and all that. The maths is quite basic though. Once you are here you might really have to press for work or time with your team if you're unlucky but it is important to do so so you're not stranded when asking for feedback.
