Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The work included plenty of training calls, shadowing and completing the first drafts of tasks for seniors, such as briefing notes, tax sheets and emails to clients or other contacts.
Interns often do more admin based tasks for colleagues too.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was definitely given an appropriate level of responsibility. I did tasks that felt (and were) meaningful and impactful, but mostly not without an appropriate level of pre-guidance.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
I have definitely learned and developed a lot of skills. As well as subject-specific skills like more of an insight into the way the tax world works and the different documents and returns globally, I have learned how to adapt to new internal systems quickly and thoroughly and become more comfortable with a professional environment.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
An appropriate amount of support and guidance was given. The way the scheme is set up with each intern having a buddy and a counsellor meant that there was always someone to ask for help - work-wise or more personally e.g., related to stress - if you felt the manager on your work wasn't the best person to approach.
Everyone is very approachable though, and tended to understand the level of support an intern would need.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture is very positive. It is welcoming and nurturing of the individual, putting wellbeing at the heart of everything that is done as that is how good results are achieved.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I have thoroughly enjoyed my internship, perhaps more than expected.
Though there is space for the work to sometimes be difficult and plentiful due to the nature of working in such a reputable firm, the individual generally speaking has a good level of autonomy over what work to pick up and work on, so it was rarely overwhelming.
I would highly recommend.

What advice would you give to others applying to EY
I would highly encourage others to apply here. A piece of advice would be to make sure you form a good relationship with your counsellor and buddy, so you feel comfortable reaching out for them with help or any concerns. That being said, definitely don't be afraid to ask anyone for help, as everyone is there to be a port of call for you!
